Our care, where you live

Our live-in care in Enfield

Live-in care means one-to-one support in your own home: personal care, medication support, meals, help around the house, getting out and about, and someone close by at night. Whether it suits the person, and whether one carer can support a couple, is worked out at the free assessment. Read more in live-in care explained and how it works day to day.

How we arrange live-in care in Enfield

Day and Nightcare provides fully managed live-in care across Enfield, from £1,550 a week. One main carer lives in the home; a relief carer covers their holidays and time off, and a manager is on call. Care starts with a free assessment, a written quote and a written care plan.

Care can be paid for privately, by Enfield Council (including direct payments) or by NHS Continuing Healthcare. We have provided Discharge to Assess (D2A) care since 2014. If someone is in hospital, tell us the expected discharge date (see care after hospital). Our care team is on 01865 715780.

Your questions

Questions about live-in care in Enfield

Who do I call in Enfield to ask for a care assessment?

Call Enfield Council's adult social care team on 020 8379 1001, or email adultsocialcare@enfield.gov.uk. You can refer yourself, or a professional or friend can do it for you. The needs assessment is free, and anyone can ask for one. If you need the process or your rights explained, Enfield Carers Centre (020 8366 3677) can help.

How do I get a carer's assessment in Enfield?

Enfield Carers Centre is Enfield Council's appointed assessor for adult carers' assessments. Call 020 8366 3677 or email assessmentsadmin@enfieldcarers.org; you may be asked to complete an online self-assessment first. The assessment has to be done by the borough where the person you care for lives. The phone lines are open Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 10am to 3pm, and on Tuesday evenings from 5pm to 8.45pm.

Where are memory problems assessed in Enfield?

The Enfield Memory Service, run by North London NHS Foundation Trust, is at the Warwick Centre, Chase Farm Hospital (020 8702 4470, Monday to Friday 8.30am to 4.30pm). It sees people aged 65 or over referred by their GP, who arranges blood tests first, or by hospital liaison teams. The first assessment can take up to two hours, so bring a relative or friend who knows the person well.

Can we get a council tax reduction in Enfield if someone has dementia?

Possibly: ask Enfield Council, which collects council tax. Under the national rules, a person with a severe mental impairment needs a certificate from a medical professional, such as the GP, and a qualifying benefit; if they live alone, they get a 100% discount. People who are severely mentally impaired, and live-in carers of someone not their partner, spouse or child under 18, are not counted: if only one adult is left counted, the bill falls by 25%, and if everyone is disregarded, by 50%.

Which hospital will we be taken to from Enfield?

North Middlesex University Hospital in Edmonton has a 24-hour A&E for all ages, and Barnet Hospital on Wellhouse Lane also has a 24-hour A&E. Chase Farm Hospital on The Ridgeway has an urgent treatment centre for urgent injuries and illnesses that are not life-threatening, open 8am to 10pm every day (last check-in 9pm), but no A&E. In an emergency, call 999; if unsure, call NHS 111.

How much does live-in care cost in Enfield?

Live-in care with Day and Nightcare costs from £1,550 a week in Enfield, the same as everywhere in England, for one person with a carer who rests at night. That includes our care team's management (the assessment, care plan, reviews, supervision and the on-call manager) and the carer's food; break cover and the carer's travel are extra. For a couple it is from £1,800 a week, where one carer can safely meet both partners' needs. You receive a written quote after a free assessment.

Can the council help pay for live-in care in Enfield?

Yes, if the person's care needs meet the national eligibility criteria and their savings are below £23,250 (2026/27). Adult social care in Enfield is arranged by London Borough of Enfield. Ask for a care needs assessment; if you are eligible, council funding can usually be taken as a direct payment and used for live-in care from us.

Can live-in care start when someone leaves North Middlesex University Hospital?

It can. Tell us the expected discharge date as early as you can, and we will work with you and the ward's discharge team on when live-in care can start. We can often start within 24 to 48 hours of the assessment, depending on carer availability, and we confirm the start date once a carer is arranged. We have provided Discharge to Assess (D2A) care since 2014.
