Our care, where you live
Our live-in care in Ealing
Live-in care means one-to-one support in your own home: personal care, medication support, meals, help around the house, getting out and about, and someone close by at night. Whether it suits the person, and whether one carer can support a couple, is worked out at the free assessment. Read more in live-in care explained and how it works day to day.
How we arrange live-in care in Ealing
Day and Nightcare provides fully managed live-in care across Ealing, from £1,550 a week. One main carer lives in the home; a relief carer covers their holidays and time off, and a manager is on call. Care starts with a free assessment, a written quote and a written care plan.
Care can be paid for privately, by Ealing Council (including direct payments) or by NHS Continuing Healthcare. We have provided Discharge to Assess (D2A) care since 2014. If someone is in hospital, tell us the expected discharge date (see care after hospital). Our care team is on 01865 715780.
Arranging care and funding in Ealing
Ealing Council runs adult social care and collects council tax. To ask for a care needs assessment, call the Social Care Advice and Referral Centre on 020 8825 8000, email sscallcentre@ealing.gov.uk, or use the online self-referral form (there is a separate form for representatives). The needs assessment is free, and anyone can ask for one. Out of hours, the emergency duty team is on the same number: 5pm to 9am on weekdays, all weekend, and 24 hours on bank holidays.

Ealing charges for most adult social care, but you do not pay for:
- reablement: a reablement carer at home for up to six weeks, fully funded by the council;
- carers’ support services;
- occupational therapy equipment and adaptations up to £1,000 (means-tested Disabled Facilities Grants cover adaptations up to £30,000).
Other care is means-tested through a financial assessment. With more than £23,250 in savings and capital, you get no financial help from the council. You can still ask it to arrange your care, for an extra charge: its 2026/27 fees schedule lists a self-funder arrangement fee of £1,293.52. You can also arrange live-in care directly with a provider.
A family carer can ask for a carer’s assessment on 020 8825 8000 or fill in the council’s carers supported self-assessment form.
Council tax reductions to ask about: a home adapted for a physically disabled person can be billed one band lower (you need a letter from an occupational therapist, social worker or doctor); a home lived in only by people who are severely mentally impaired and on a qualifying benefit is exempt; carers of a disabled person on a qualifying benefit (not a partner or child under 18) are not counted; and an annexe lived in by a disabled or elderly relative is exempt. See council tax discounts.

Your questions
Questions about live-in care in Ealing
Who do I call in Ealing to ask for a care assessment?
Call Ealing Council's Social Care Advice and Referral Centre on 020 8825 8000, or use the council's online self-referral form. There is a separate form if you are referring someone else as their representative; make sure they know you are doing so. Outside office hours, the council's emergency duty team is on the same number, from 5pm to 9am on weekdays, from 5pm Friday to 9am Monday, and 24 hours on bank holidays.
What does Ealing Council not charge for?
Ealing Council charges for most adult social care, but you do not pay for reablement (up to six weeks of support at home, fully funded by the council), carers' support services, or occupational therapy equipment and adaptations up to £1,000. Larger adaptations may be covered by a means-tested Disabled Facilities Grant of up to £30,000. Ongoing care is means-tested, and people with more than £23,250 in savings and capital get no financial help from the council.
Where are memory problems assessed in Ealing?
Ask the GP, who can refer to West London NHS Trust's Cognitive Impairment and Dementia Service. People in the west of the borough are seen by the team at Elm Lodge (020 8483 2646), and people in the east by the team at Sycamore Lodge (020 8483 1666). The service aims to make contact within two weeks of a referral, and it helps to bring someone who knows the person well to the full assessment.
Which A&E do Ealing residents use?
Ealing Hospital on Uxbridge Road in Southall has an A&E open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and an urgent treatment centre next to it. Children who come to Ealing Hospital are assessed there and are usually seen in the urgent treatment centre; some are referred to an A&E at Northwick Park Hospital or elsewhere. The urgent treatment centre at Central Middlesex Hospital in Park Royal is open from 8am to 9pm every day.
How much does live-in care cost in Ealing?
Live-in care with Day and Nightcare costs from £1,550 a week in Ealing, the same as everywhere in England, for one person with a carer who rests at night. That includes our care team's management (the assessment, care plan, reviews, supervision and the on-call manager) and the carer's food; break cover and the carer's travel are extra. For a couple it is from £1,800 a week, where one carer can safely meet both partners' needs. You receive a written quote after a free assessment.
Can the council help pay for live-in care in Ealing?
Yes, if the person's care needs meet the national eligibility criteria and their savings are below £23,250 (2026/27). Adult social care in Ealing is arranged by London Borough of Ealing. Ask for a care needs assessment; if you are eligible, council funding can usually be taken as a direct payment and used for live-in care from us.
Can live-in care start when someone leaves Ealing Hospital?
It can. Tell us the expected discharge date as early as you can, and we will work with you and the ward's discharge team on when live-in care can start. We can often start within 24 to 48 hours of the assessment, depending on carer availability, and we confirm the start date once a carer is arranged. We have provided Discharge to Assess (D2A) care since 2014.
