A break for family carers

Respite care at home

Time to rest, recover or get away, while the person you care for stays at home with their own routine.

Looking after yourself too

Caring for a partner, relative or friend can be rewarding, and it can also be tiring. Taking a break is not letting anyone down; it helps you keep going. Respite care means you can rest, see friends, go on holiday or have a planned operation while a trained carer supports the person at home.

How respite live-in care works

  • A free assessment, so the carer knows the person's routine, needs and preferences.
  • A written care plan, so the carer knows the routine and what matters to the person.
  • A carer who lives in for the period you need, from about a week.
  • The option to make it regular, for example a week every few months.

Shorter breaks

In Oxfordshire we also offer sitting visits of a few hours and night care, so you can have time to yourself or a full night's sleep. Please call 01865 715780 to plan a break.

Questions people ask

What is respite care at home?

Respite care is short-term care that gives a family carer a break. A live-in carer can move in while you rest, travel, or recover from illness yourself, so the person you care for stays at home with their routine.

How long can respite live-in care last?

From about a week to as long as you need. Respite live-in care starts from £1,550 a week, just like ongoing live-in care.
