Our care, where you live

Our live-in care in Stratford-upon-Avon

Live-in care means one-to-one support in your own home: personal care, medication support, meals, help around the house, getting out and about, and someone close by at night. Whether it suits the person, and whether one carer can support a couple, is worked out at the free assessment. Read more in live-in care explained and how it works day to day.

For home care the council arranges, the most it charges from April 2026 is £26.44 an hour; its Financial Assessments and Benefits Advice Team is on 01926 413985. What may change soon

On 29 October 2026 the Government said it is minded to create two unitary councils for Warwickshire, with Stratford-on-Avon District in the southern one. This is proposed, not confirmed; the councils say new councils would start in April 2029. Until then, the county council arranges adult social care and the district council collects council tax.

Your questions

Questions about live-in care in Stratford-upon-Avon

Who do I call in Stratford-upon-Avon to ask for a care assessment?

Call Warwickshire County Council's adult social care team on 01926 359190 (Monday to Thursday 9am to 5pm, Friday 9am to 4.30pm), or use the council's online form (linked from its assessment page under Useful contacts on this page) if the person has no support from adult social care yet. The county council arranges care; Stratford-on-Avon District Council deals with council tax. Out of hours, the emergency duty social worker is on 01926 886922. Is the Minor Injuries Unit at Stratford Hospital open every day?

No. The Minor Injuries Unit in Building 2 at Stratford Hospital, Arden Street, opens only on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, 9am to 4pm. It treats injuries such as sprains and strains, wound infections, minor burns and minor head injuries. On other days, or for anything serious such as a suspected heart attack, stroke or broken bones, the NHS trust directs people to the 24-hour Emergency Department at Warwick Hospital. NHS 111 can advise where to go.

What hospice support is there in Stratford-upon-Avon?

The Shakespeare Hospice in Shottery supports adults registered with a South Warwickshire GP who are affected by a life-limiting illness. Its Hospice at Home team of registered nurses and healthcare assistants is free and helps people who want to be cared for, and to die, at home. It also offers day and therapy services, counselling and Companion at Home. A GP, hospital or district nurse can refer, or you can refer yourself online; call 01789 266852 (weekdays 9am to 5pm).

Can we get help with council tax if Dad has dementia?

Possibly. Stratford-on-Avon District Council lists dementia, Alzheimer's disease and the long-term effects of a stroke among conditions that can qualify for its severe mental impairment discount or exemption. You need a doctor's certificate and a qualifying benefit such as Attendance Allowance, and you can apply online. An unpaid carer who lives with him, is not his spouse or partner and gives at least 35 hours of care a week may also be disregarded. Call Revenues on 01789 260990.

How much does live-in care cost in Stratford-upon-Avon?

Live-in care with Day and Nightcare costs from £1,550 a week in Stratford-upon-Avon, the same as everywhere in England, for one person with a carer who rests at night. That includes our care team's management (the assessment, care plan, reviews, supervision and the on-call manager) and the carer's food; break cover and the carer's travel are extra. For a couple it is from £1,800 a week, where one carer can safely meet both partners' needs. You receive a written quote after a free assessment.

Can the council help pay for live-in care in Stratford-upon-Avon?

Yes, if the person's care needs meet the national eligibility criteria and their savings are below £23,250 (2026/27). Adult social care in Stratford-upon-Avon is arranged by Warwickshire County Council. Ask for a care needs assessment; if you are eligible, council funding can usually be taken as a direct payment and used for live-in care from us.

Can live-in care start when someone leaves Warwick Hospital?

It can. Tell us the expected discharge date as early as you can, and we will work with you and the ward's discharge team on when live-in care can start. We can often start within 24 to 48 hours of the assessment, depending on carer availability, and we confirm the start date once a carer is arranged. We have provided Discharge to Assess (D2A) care since 2014.
