Our care, where you live
Our live-in care in Nuneaton
Live-in care means one-to-one support in your own home: personal care, medication support, meals, help around the house, getting out and about, and someone close by at night. Whether it suits the person, and whether one carer can support a couple, is worked out at the free assessment. Read more in live-in care explained and how it works day to day.
How we arrange live-in care in Nuneaton
Day and Nightcare provides fully managed live-in care in Nuneaton and the villages around it, from £1,550 a week. One main carer lives in the home; a relief carer covers their holidays and time off, and a manager is on call. Care starts with a free assessment, a written quote and a written care plan.
Care can be paid for privately, by Warwickshire County Council (including direct payments) or by NHS Continuing Healthcare. We have provided Discharge to Assess (D2A) care since 2014. If someone is in hospital, tell us the expected discharge date (see care after hospital). Our care team is on 01865 715780.

A financial assessment decides what your relative pays. With savings over £23,250 they would usually pay the full cost, but the home is not counted for care at home. For home care the council arranges, the most it charges from April 2026 is £26.44 an hour; its Financial Assessments and Benefits Advice Team is on 01926 413985. Council funding can be taken as a direct payment.
If you help a relative, ask Caring Together Warwickshire for a free carer’s assessment on freephone 0800 197 5544.
Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council collects council tax. A person who is severely mentally impaired is not counted, nor are qualifying carers; if everyone in the home is disregarded, a 50% discount or a full exemption may apply. A home with an extra room or indoor wheelchair space needed by a disabled resident can get disability relief. Ask the Billing Section on 024 7637 6534. See council tax discounts for care.
Urgent care and leaving hospital in Nuneaton
- A&E: George Eliot Hospital, College Street, has a 24-hour Emergency Department; use the Heath End Road entrance.
- Urgent treatment: a GP-led Urgent Treatment Centre in the same Emergency Department is open 8am to 8pm every day, including bank holidays. Report to reception. It is not an A&E.
George Eliot’s Admiral Nurses support patients with dementia and their families. Under John’s Campaign, the main carer can ask the ward for a carers card, which allows open visiting by agreement with the ward manager.
Before your relative goes home, the council’s Hospital Social Care Team can talk with them about what matters to them and what support would help. For adults living in Warwickshire with new or increased needs, the NHS-funded Discharge to Assess scheme usually means the Community Recovery Service: free home care for up to six weeks, with care workers visiting up to four times a day. A Care Act assessment follows about four weeks after discharge. See Discharge to Assess explained.
For NHS Continuing Healthcare, NHS Coventry and Warwickshire Integrated Care Board takes enquiries for patients with Warwickshire North GPs at cwicb.swchcgeneral@nhs.net.

What may change soon
On 29 October 2026 the Government said it is minded to create two unitary councils for Warwickshire, with Nuneaton in the northern one. This is proposed, not confirmed; the councils say new councils would start in April 2029. Until then, the county council arranges adult social care and the borough council collects council tax.

Your questions
Questions about live-in care in Nuneaton
Who do I call in Nuneaton to ask for a care assessment?
Call Warwickshire County Council's adult social care team on 01926 359190 (Monday to Thursday 9am to 5pm, Friday 9am to 4.30pm), or use the council's online form (linked from its assessment page under Useful contacts on this page) if your relative has no support from adult social care yet. The county council, not Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council, arranges adult social care. Out of hours, the emergency duty social worker is on 01926 886922. A family carer can ask for a carer's assessment through Caring Together Warwickshire on freephone 0800 197 5544.
Where do people in Nuneaton go for A&E or urgent care?
George Eliot Hospital on College Street has an Emergency Department open 24 hours a day, every day of the year, reached from the Heath End Road entrance. A GP-led Urgent Treatment Centre in the same department is open 8am to 8pm every day, including bank holidays. For problems that are not life-threatening, the hospital suggests NHS 111 online first. In an emergency, call 999.
What help is there after leaving George Eliot Hospital?
Adults living in Warwickshire who leave hospital with new or increased needs may be offered the Community Recovery Service, part of the NHS-funded Discharge to Assess scheme. It is free for up to six weeks: care workers visit up to four times a day to help with moving around the home, washing, dressing and meals, alongside therapy. Most people finish within four to five weeks. If ongoing care is needed after that, there may be a charge, depending on a financial assessment.
Is there transport in Nuneaton for hospital and GP appointments?
Yes. Medicar, run by the charity Volunteer Friends, uses volunteer drivers for medical journeys by people who cannot use public transport because of ill-health, caring responsibilities, old age or disability. Book on 024 7664 0088 at least two working days ahead. Journeys cost 55p a mile plus a £4 administration charge per journey, paid to the driver. Passengers need to get in and out of an ordinary car with little help, or bring someone with them.
How much does live-in care cost in Nuneaton?
Live-in care with Day and Nightcare costs from £1,550 a week in Nuneaton, the same as everywhere in England, for one person with a carer who rests at night. That includes our care team's management (the assessment, care plan, reviews, supervision and the on-call manager) and the carer's food; break cover and the carer's travel are extra. For a couple it is from £1,800 a week, where one carer can safely meet both partners' needs. You receive a written quote after a free assessment.
Can the council help pay for live-in care in Nuneaton?
Yes, if the person's care needs meet the national eligibility criteria and their savings are below £23,250 (2026/27). Adult social care in Nuneaton is arranged by Warwickshire County Council. Ask for a care needs assessment; if you are eligible, council funding can usually be taken as a direct payment and used for live-in care from us.
Can live-in care start when someone leaves George Eliot Hospital?
It can. Tell us the expected discharge date as early as you can, and we will work with you and the ward's discharge team on when live-in care can start. We can often start within 24 to 48 hours of the assessment, depending on carer availability, and we confirm the start date once a carer is arranged. We have provided Discharge to Assess (D2A) care since 2014.
