Our care, where you live

Our live-in care in Bedworth

Live-in care means one-to-one support in your own home: personal care, medication support, meals, help around the house, getting out and about, and someone close by at night. Whether it suits the person, and whether one carer can support a couple, is worked out at the free assessment. Read more in live-in care explained and how it works day to day.

How we arrange live-in care in Bedworth

Day and Nightcare provides fully managed live-in care in Bedworth and the villages around it, from £1,550 a week. One main carer lives in the home; a relief carer covers their holidays and time off, and a manager is on call. Care starts with a free assessment, a written quote and a written care plan.

Care can be paid for privately, by Warwickshire County Council (including direct payments) or by NHS Continuing Healthcare. We have provided Discharge to Assess (D2A) care since 2014. If someone is in hospital, tell us the expected discharge date (see care after hospital). Our care team is on 01865 715780.

A financial assessment decides what your relative pays. With savings over £23,250 they would usually pay the full cost, but the home is not counted for care at home. For home care the council arranges, the most it charges from April 2026 is £26.44 an hour; its Financial Assessments and Benefits Advice Team is on 01926 413985. Council funding can be taken as a direct payment.

If you look after someone, ask Caring Together Warwickshire for a free carer’s assessment on freephone 0800 197 5544 (Monday, Wednesday and Friday 9am to 5pm; Tuesday and Thursday 9am to 8pm; Saturday 9am to 2pm).

Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council collects council tax and handles the reductions in the questions below; the Billing Section is on 024 7637 6534. See council tax discounts for care.

Urgent care and leaving hospital in Bedworth

  • A&E: George Eliot Hospital, Nuneaton, and University Hospital, Coventry, both have Emergency Departments open 24 hours.
  • Urgent treatment: George Eliot’s GP-led Urgent Treatment Centre is open 8am to 8pm daily, including bank holidays; report to reception in the Emergency Department. The Coventry Urgent Treatment Centre on Stoney Stanton Road is open 8am to 10pm daily. Neither is an A&E.

For Warwickshire residents with new or increased needs, the NHS-funded Discharge to Assess scheme usually means the Community Recovery Service: free home care for up to six weeks, with up to four visits a day for personal care, meals and therapy plans. If home is not possible straight away, a free stay of up to four weeks in one of the council’s care homes can be arranged. A Care Act assessment follows about four weeks after discharge home.

At University Hospital, patients usually wait in the discharge lounge while medicines, and transport if needed, are arranged. Inpatients who need short-term physiotherapy or occupational therapy may move to the Hospital of St Cross in Rugby, which has a therapy gym and an assessment kitchen. See leaving hospital.

NHS Continuing Healthcare is arranged by NHS Coventry and Warwickshire Integrated Care Board: email cwicb.swchcgeneral@nhs.net for a Warwickshire North GP, or cwicb.referrals@nhs.net for a Coventry GP.

What may change soon

On 29 October 2026 the Government said it is minded to create two unitary councils for Warwickshire, with Bedworth in the northern one. This is proposed, not confirmed; the councils say new councils would start in April 2029. Until then, the county council arranges adult social care and the borough council collects council tax.

Your questions

Questions about live-in care in Bedworth

Who do I call in Bedworth to ask for a care assessment?

Call Warwickshire County Council's adult social care team on 01926 359190 (Monday to Thursday 9am to 5pm, Friday 9am to 4.30pm), or use the council's online form (linked from its assessment page under Useful contacts on this page) if your relative has no support from adult social care yet. The county council arranges adult social care; the borough council handles council tax. Out of hours, the emergency duty social worker is on 01926 886922. If your relative's address is in the City of Coventry, contact Coventry City Council instead.

Which hospital do people from Bedworth use?

The nearest emergency departments are at George Eliot Hospital in Nuneaton and University Hospital, Clifford Bridge Road, Coventry. Both are open 24 hours a day. George Eliot also has a GP-led Urgent Treatment Centre, open 8am to 8pm every day including bank holidays, and the Coventry Urgent Treatment Centre on Stoney Stanton Road is open 8am to 10pm daily. Neither urgent treatment centre is an A&E. If you are unsure where to go, use NHS 111; in an emergency, call 999.

Can we get a council tax reduction in Bedworth if Mum has dementia?

Possibly. Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council does not count a person who is severely mentally impaired, and qualifying carers are not counted either. If everyone in the home is disregarded, a 50% discount or a full exemption may apply. A home with an extra room or indoor wheelchair space needed by a disabled resident may get disability relief; GOV.UK says the bill is then charged at the next band down, or cut by 17% in Band A. None of this is automatic: call the Billing Section on 024 7637 6534 to ask how to apply.

Is there dementia support in Bedworth itself?

Yes. Happy Days Community Group meets in the pavilion in Miners Welfare Park on the third Wednesday of each month, 11.30am to 1.30pm, and welcomes people living with dementia and their carers (£3.50 including a light buffet; contact details are on its listing in Warwickshire's Living Well with Dementia directory). Volunteer Friends in Bulkington runs weekly Singing with Dementia sessions (024 7631 5151). Dementia Connect gives advice at any stage on 0333 150 3456, seven days a week.

How much does live-in care cost in Bedworth?

Live-in care with Day and Nightcare costs from £1,550 a week in Bedworth, the same as everywhere in England, for one person with a carer who rests at night. That includes our care team's management (the assessment, care plan, reviews, supervision and the on-call manager) and the carer's food; break cover and the carer's travel are extra. For a couple it is from £1,800 a week, where one carer can safely meet both partners' needs. You receive a written quote after a free assessment.

Can the council help pay for live-in care in Bedworth?

Yes, if the person's care needs meet the national eligibility criteria and their savings are below £23,250 (2026/27). Adult social care in Bedworth is arranged by Warwickshire County Council. Ask for a care needs assessment; if you are eligible, council funding can usually be taken as a direct payment and used for live-in care from us.

Can live-in care start when someone leaves George Eliot Hospital?

It can. Tell us the expected discharge date as early as you can, and we will work with you and the ward's discharge team on when live-in care can start. We can often start within 24 to 48 hours of the assessment, depending on carer availability, and we confirm the start date once a carer is arranged. We have provided Discharge to Assess (D2A) care since 2014.
