Our care, where you live
Our live-in care in Leamington Spa
Live-in care means one-to-one support in your own home: personal care, medication support, meals, help around the house, getting out and about, and someone close by at night. Whether it suits the person, and whether one carer can support a couple, is worked out at the free assessment. Read more in live-in care explained and how it works day to day.
How we arrange live-in care in Leamington Spa
Day and Nightcare provides fully managed live-in care in Leamington Spa and the villages around it, from £1,550 a week. One main carer lives in the home; a relief carer covers their holidays and time off, and a manager is on call. Care starts with a free assessment, a written quote and a written care plan.
Care can be paid for privately, by Warwickshire County Council (including direct payments) or by NHS Continuing Healthcare. We have provided Discharge to Assess (D2A) care since 2014. If someone is in hospital, tell us the expected discharge date (see care after hospital). Our care team is on 01865 715780.

A financial assessment decides what your relative pays. With savings over £23,250 they would usually pay the full cost, but the home is not counted for care at home. For home care the council arranges, the most it charges from April 2026 is £26.44 an hour; its Financial Assessments and Benefits Advice Team is on 01926 413985. Council funding can be taken as a direct payment.
If you help a relative, ask Caring Together Warwickshire for a free carer’s assessment on freephone 0800 197 5544.
Warwick District Council collects council tax (01926 456760). Ask about the severely mentally impaired exemption or discount and the carer disregard (see the questions below), and the disabled person reduction, which charges the home one band lower where an extra room or indoor wheelchair space is needed. See council tax discounts for care.
Urgent care and leaving hospital in Leamington Spa
- A&E: Warwick Hospital, Lakin Road, Warwick, has a full 24-hour Emergency Department.
- Minor injuries: South Warwickshire’s Minor Injuries Unit is at Stratford Hospital, open only on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, 9am to 4pm. It is not an A&E. Leamington Spa Hospital is not an A&E either.
At Warwick Hospital, each ward has a nominated discharge co-ordinator, and the trust supports John’s Campaign, so a family carer of someone with dementia can ask the ward team about staying with them.
Rehabilitation may continue at Leamington Spa Hospital, Heathcote Lane (01926 317700): Campion Ward (rehabilitation and end-of-life care), Feldon stroke rehabilitation ward and the Central England Rehabilitation Unit for brain injury.
For Warwickshire residents with new or increased needs, the NHS-funded Discharge to Assess scheme usually means the Community Recovery Service: free home care for up to six weeks, with up to four visits a day. A Care Act assessment follows about four weeks after discharge home. If someone at home suddenly becomes unwell and could be admitted, Urgent Community Response aims to reach them within two hours; families can refer on 01926 600818 (8am to 6pm, seven days a week).
For NHS Continuing Healthcare, NHS Coventry and Warwickshire Integrated Care Board takes enquiries for patients with South Warwickshire GPs at cwicb.swchcgeneral@nhs.net.

What may change soon
On 29 October 2026 the Government said it is minded to create two unitary councils for Warwickshire, with Leamington Spa in the southern one. This is proposed, not confirmed; the councils say new councils would start in April 2029. Until then, the county council arranges adult social care and Warwick District Council collects council tax.

Your questions
Questions about live-in care in Leamington Spa
Who do I call in Leamington Spa to ask for a care assessment?
Call Warwickshire County Council's adult social care team on 01926 359190 (Monday to Thursday 9am to 5pm, Friday 9am to 4.30pm), or fill in the council's online form (linked from its assessment page under Useful contacts on this page) if the person has no support from adult social care yet. The county council, not Warwick District Council, arranges adult social care. Out of hours, the emergency duty social worker is on 01926 886922. A relative who helps can ask for a carer's assessment through Caring Together Warwickshire on 0800 197 5544 (Monday, Wednesday and Friday 9am to 5pm; Tuesday and Thursday 9am to 8pm; Saturday 9am to 2pm).
Where is the nearest A&E to Leamington Spa?
The 24-hour Emergency Department is at Warwick Hospital on Lakin Road, Warwick. Leamington Spa Hospital on Heathcote Lane is a rehabilitation hospital, not an A&E. South Warwickshire's NHS trust runs its Minor Injuries Unit at Stratford Hospital, open only on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, 9am to 4pm. If you are not sure where to go, call 111; in a life-threatening emergency, call 999.
Where are memory problems assessed for people in Leamington Spa?
Start with the GP. The GP can refer to the Dementia Service run by Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership NHS Trust, whose Leamington team is at Yew Tree House, 87 Radford Road (01926 450660, weekdays 9am to 5pm). It assesses adults whose memory or thinking has changed for at least six months once physical causes have been ruled out, and can see people at home if getting to a clinic is hard. Dementia Connect (0333 150 3456) supports families before and after a diagnosis.
Can we get a council tax discount if Mum has dementia?
Possibly. Warwick District Council collects council tax in Leamington Spa (01926 456760). A person with a severe mental impairment is disregarded if a doctor certifies it (the doctor cannot charge for this) and they have claimed a qualifying benefit such as Attendance Allowance. If they are the only occupier, the home is exempt. A carer who lives with them, gives at least 35 hours of care a week and is not their partner can also be left out of the count. You have to apply for each.
How much does live-in care cost in Leamington Spa?
Live-in care with Day and Nightcare costs from £1,550 a week in Leamington Spa, the same as everywhere in England, for one person with a carer who rests at night. That includes our care team's management (the assessment, care plan, reviews, supervision and the on-call manager) and the carer's food; break cover and the carer's travel are extra. For a couple it is from £1,800 a week, where one carer can safely meet both partners' needs. You receive a written quote after a free assessment.
Can the council help pay for live-in care in Leamington Spa?
Yes, if the person's care needs meet the national eligibility criteria and their savings are below £23,250 (2026/27). Adult social care in Leamington Spa is arranged by Warwickshire County Council. Ask for a care needs assessment; if you are eligible, council funding can usually be taken as a direct payment and used for live-in care from us.
Can live-in care start when someone leaves Warwick Hospital?
It can. Tell us the expected discharge date as early as you can, and we will work with you and the ward's discharge team on when live-in care can start. We can often start within 24 to 48 hours of the assessment, depending on carer availability, and we confirm the start date once a carer is arranged. We have provided Discharge to Assess (D2A) care since 2014.
