Our care, where you live

Our live-in care in Kenilworth

Live-in care means one-to-one support in your own home: personal care, medication support, meals, help around the house, getting out and about, and someone close by at night. Whether it suits the person, and whether one carer can support a couple, is worked out at the free assessment. Read more in live-in care explained and how it works day to day.

How we arrange live-in care in Kenilworth

Day and Nightcare provides fully managed live-in care in Kenilworth and the villages around it, from £1,550 a week. One main carer lives in the home; a relief carer covers their holidays and time off, and a manager is on call. Care starts with a free assessment, a written quote and a written care plan.

Care can be paid for privately, by Warwickshire County Council (including direct payments) or by NHS Continuing Healthcare. We have provided Discharge to Assess (D2A) care since 2014. If someone is in hospital, tell us the expected discharge date (see care after hospital). Our care team is on 01865 715780.

A financial assessment decides what your relative pays. With savings over £23,250 they would usually pay the full cost, but the home is not counted for care at home. For home care the council arranges, the most it charges from April 2026 is £26.44 an hour; its Financial Assessments and Benefits Advice Team is on 01926 413985. Council funding can be taken as a direct payment.

If you help a relative, whether you live with them or elsewhere, ask Caring Together Warwickshire for a free carer’s assessment on 0800 197 5544 (Monday, Wednesday and Friday 9am to 5pm; Tuesday and Thursday 9am to 8pm; Saturday 9am to 2pm). See also caring from a distance.

Warwick District Council collects council tax (01926 456760). A severe mental impairment can bring an exemption or discount (with a doctor’s certificate and a claim for a qualifying benefit), and a carer who lives in the home, is not the person’s partner and gives at least 35 hours of care a week may not be counted. There is also a disabled person reduction. Each must be applied for; see council tax discounts for care.

Urgent care and leaving hospital in Kenilworth

  • A&E: Warwick Hospital, Lakin Road, has South Warwickshire’s full 24-hour Emergency Department. University Hospital, Coventry, a major trauma and cancer centre, also has a 24-hour Emergency Department.
  • Urgent treatment and minor injuries: the Coventry Urgent Treatment Centre, Stoney Stanton Road, is open 8am to 10pm daily. South Warwickshire’s Minor Injuries Unit, at Stratford Hospital, opens only on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, 9am to 4pm. Neither is an A&E.

At Warwick Hospital each ward has a nominated discharge co-ordinator; rehabilitation may continue at Leamington Spa Hospital, Heathcote Lane.

Whichever hospital it is, Warwickshire’s NHS-funded Discharge to Assess scheme is for adults living in the county with new or increased needs. At home it usually means the Community Recovery Service: free home care for up to six weeks, with up to four visits a day, and a Care Act assessment about four weeks after discharge. Care from a provider your relative already had is not part of the free scheme.

If an adult at home suddenly becomes unwell and could be admitted, Urgent Community Response gives a two-hour or same-day response, depending on need. Families can refer on 01926 600818 (8am to 6pm, seven days a week).

NHS Continuing Healthcare is arranged by NHS Coventry and Warwickshire Integrated Care Board; for a South Warwickshire GP, email cwicb.swchcgeneral@nhs.net.

What may change soon

On 29 October 2026 the Government said it is minded to create two unitary councils for Warwickshire, with Kenilworth in the southern one. This is proposed, not confirmed; the councils say new councils would start in April 2029. Until then, the county council arranges adult social care and Warwick District Council collects council tax.

Your questions

Questions about live-in care in Kenilworth

Who do I call in Kenilworth to ask for a care assessment?

Call Warwickshire County Council's adult social care team on 01926 359190 (Monday to Thursday 9am to 5pm, Friday 9am to 4.30pm), or use the council's online form (linked from its assessment page under Useful contacts on this page) if the person has no support from adult social care yet. Kenilworth is in Warwickshire, so it is the county council you need, not Coventry City Council. Out of hours, the emergency duty social worker is on 01926 886922. Family carers can ask for a carer's assessment through Caring Together Warwickshire on 0800 197 5544.

Which hospitals serve Kenilworth?

Warwick Hospital on Lakin Road runs the full 24-hour Emergency Department for South Warwickshire. University Hospital, Coventry, on Clifford Bridge Road, is a major trauma and cancer centre whose Emergency Department is open 24 hours. Rehabilitation after a stay may continue at Leamington Spa Hospital in Heathcote. For urgent problems that are not emergencies, the Coventry Urgent Treatment Centre on Stoney Stanton Road is open 8am to 10pm daily. If you are unsure where to go, call 111; in an emergency, call 999.

Is there a day centre in Kenilworth?

Yes. Waverley Day Centre at 65 Waverley Road, run by the local charity Kenilworth Community Care, is open Tuesday to Friday. A full day costs £52.50, including collection from home within Kenilworth in a minibus with a tail lift, morning activities, a home-cooked two-course lunch and afternoon activities, with the bus home at about 3pm. Without transport it is £47 a day. A lunch club, without transport, costs £12. Call 01926 852365.

How can someone in Kenilworth get to hospital appointments without a car?

VASA, a local charity, arranges volunteer drivers for people in Kenilworth, including to hospital appointments in Coventry, although it cannot pick people up from Coventry. Register at least two working days before you ask for a journey. Journeys cost a £4 administration fee plus 55p a mile, with a minimum charge of £8, and the driver may be able to wait during the appointment. Call 01789 262889 and choose option 1, Monday to Friday, 9.30am to 3.30pm.

How much does live-in care cost in Kenilworth?

Live-in care with Day and Nightcare costs from £1,550 a week in Kenilworth, the same as everywhere in England, for one person with a carer who rests at night. That includes our care team's management (the assessment, care plan, reviews, supervision and the on-call manager) and the carer's food; break cover and the carer's travel are extra. For a couple it is from £1,800 a week, where one carer can safely meet both partners' needs. You receive a written quote after a free assessment.

Can the council help pay for live-in care in Kenilworth?

Yes, if the person's care needs meet the national eligibility criteria and their savings are below £23,250 (2026/27). Adult social care in Kenilworth is arranged by Warwickshire County Council. Ask for a care needs assessment; if you are eligible, council funding can usually be taken as a direct payment and used for live-in care from us.

Can live-in care start when someone leaves Warwick Hospital?

It can. Tell us the expected discharge date as early as you can, and we will work with you and the ward's discharge team on when live-in care can start. We can often start within 24 to 48 hours of the assessment, depending on carer availability, and we confirm the start date once a carer is arranged. We have provided Discharge to Assess (D2A) care since 2014.
