Our care, where you live

Our live-in care in Atherstone

Live-in care means one-to-one support in your own home: personal care, medication support, meals, help around the house, getting out and about, and someone close by at night. Whether it suits the person, and whether one carer can support a couple, is worked out at the free assessment. Read more in live-in care explained and how it works day to day.

How we arrange live-in care in Atherstone

Day and Nightcare provides fully managed live-in care in Atherstone, Mancetter and the villages around them, from £1,550 a week. One main carer lives in the home; a relief carer covers their holidays and time off, and a manager is on call. Care starts with a free assessment, a written quote and a written care plan.

Care can be paid for privately, by Warwickshire County Council (including direct payments) or by NHS Continuing Healthcare. We have provided Discharge to Assess (D2A) care since 2014. If someone is in hospital, tell us the expected discharge date (see care after hospital). Our care team is on 01865 715780.

A financial assessment decides what your relative pays. With savings over £23,250 they would usually pay the full cost, but the home is not counted for care at home. For home care the council arranges, the most it charges from April 2026 is £26.44 an hour; its Financial Assessments and Benefits Advice Team is on 01926 413985. Council funding can be taken as a direct payment.

If you look after someone, ask Caring Together Warwickshire (freephone 0800 197 5544) for a free carer’s assessment.

North Warwickshire Borough Council, South Street, Atherstone, collects council tax. For each reduction, download the form and guidance from its website and send it to the address on the form; questions go to 01827 715341 or counciltax@northwarks.gov.uk. A live-in carer does not need to receive Carer’s Allowance to be disregarded, and more than one carer in a household can qualify. See council tax discounts for care.

What may change soon

On 29 October 2026 the Government said it is minded to create two unitary councils for Warwickshire, with North Warwickshire in the northern one. This is proposed, not confirmed; the councils say new councils would start in April 2029. Until then, the county council arranges adult social care and the borough council collects council tax.

Your questions

Questions about live-in care in Atherstone

Who do I call in Atherstone to ask for a care assessment?

Call Warwickshire County Council's adult social care team on 01926 359190 (Monday to Thursday 9am to 5pm, Friday 9am to 4.30pm), or use the council's online form (linked from its assessment page under Useful contacts on this page) if your relative has no support from adult social care yet. North Warwickshire Borough Council, whose offices are in Atherstone, deals with council tax, not care. Out of hours, the emergency duty social worker is on 01926 886922. Family carers can ask for a carer's assessment through Caring Together Warwickshire on freephone 0800 197 5544.

Where is the nearest A&E to Atherstone?

The nearest Emergency Department is at George Eliot Hospital in Nuneaton, open 24 hours a day, every day. It also has a GP-led Urgent Treatment Centre, open 8am to 8pm every day including bank holidays. Over the Staffordshire border, the nurse-led Minor Injuries Unit at Sir Robert Peel Community Hospital in Tamworth is open 8am to 9pm, with X-rays from 9am to 5pm, Monday to Sunday; no appointment is needed. Neither is an A&E. In an emergency, call 999; if unsure, use NHS 111.

Is there transport from the villages around Atherstone?

Yes. IndieGo Atherstone is the county council's dial-a-ride minibus to and from Atherstone. On Tuesdays and Fridays, 9.30am to 3pm, it serves villages including Kingsbury, Hurley, Wood End, Austrey, Warton, Ansley and Old Arley. A single fare is £3 and concessionary passes are valid. Register and book on 01926 742000 (Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm). For health appointments, Beeline's volunteer drivers cover North Warwickshire: 01827 717074, weekdays 9am to 1pm.

What council tax help is there in Atherstone when someone needs care?

North Warwickshire Borough Council lists three reductions that often matter. A person who is severely mentally impaired can be disregarded with a medical certificate and a qualifying benefit; GPs are not allowed to charge for the certificate. A live-in carer giving at least 35 hours of care a week to someone who is not their partner or a child under 18 can be disregarded if the person cared for receives a benefit such as Attendance Allowance. A home with an extra room, a second bathroom or kitchen, or indoor wheelchair use may get the disabled band reduction. Call 01827 715341 or email counciltax@northwarks.gov.uk.

How much does live-in care cost in Atherstone?

Live-in care with Day and Nightcare costs from £1,550 a week in Atherstone, the same as everywhere in England, for one person with a carer who rests at night. That includes our care team's management (the assessment, care plan, reviews, supervision and the on-call manager) and the carer's food; break cover and the carer's travel are extra. For a couple it is from £1,800 a week, where one carer can safely meet both partners' needs. You receive a written quote after a free assessment.

Can the council help pay for live-in care in Atherstone?

Yes, if the person's care needs meet the national eligibility criteria and their savings are below £23,250 (2026/27). Adult social care in Atherstone is arranged by Warwickshire County Council. Ask for a care needs assessment; if you are eligible, council funding can usually be taken as a direct payment and used for live-in care from us.

Can live-in care start when someone leaves George Eliot Hospital?

It can. Tell us the expected discharge date as early as you can, and we will work with you and the ward's discharge team on when live-in care can start. We can often start within 24 to 48 hours of the assessment, depending on carer availability, and we confirm the start date once a carer is arranged. We have provided Discharge to Assess (D2A) care since 2014.
