Our care, where you live
Our live-in care in Shipston-on-Stour
Live-in care means one-to-one support in your own home: personal care, medication support, meals, help around the house, getting out and about, and someone close by at night. Whether it suits the person, and whether one carer can support a couple, is worked out at the free assessment. Read more in live-in care explained and how it works day to day.
How we arrange live-in care in Shipston-on-Stour
Day and Nightcare provides fully managed live-in care in Shipston-on-Stour and the villages around it, from £1,550 a week. One main carer lives in the home; a relief carer covers their holidays and time off, and a manager is on call. Care starts with a free assessment, a written quote and a written care plan.
Care can be paid for privately, by Warwickshire County Council (including direct payments) or by NHS Continuing Healthcare. We have provided Discharge to Assess (D2A) care since 2014. If someone is in hospital, tell us the expected discharge date (see care after hospital). Our care team is on 01865 715780.

A financial assessment decides what your relative pays. With savings over £23,250 they would usually pay the full cost, but the home is not counted for care at home. For home care the council arranges, the most it charges from April 2026 is £26.44 an hour; its Financial Assessments and Benefits Advice Team is on 01926 413985. Council funding can be taken as a direct payment.
For a free carer’s assessment, call Caring Together Warwickshire on 0800 197 5544 (Monday, Wednesday and Friday 9am to 5pm; Tuesday and Thursday 9am to 8pm; Saturday 9am to 2pm).
Stratford-on-Avon District Council collects council tax (Revenues 01789 260990). Ask about the severe mental impairment discount, which can apply to dementia; the carer discount for an unpaid carer who lives in and gives at least 35 hours of care a week (form on 01789 260991); and the disabled band reduction. See council tax discounts for care.

What may change soon
On 29 October 2026 the Government said it is minded to create two unitary councils for Warwickshire, with Stratford-on-Avon District in the southern one. This is proposed, not confirmed; the councils say new councils would start in April 2029. Until then, the county council arranges adult social care and the district council collects council tax.

A medical unit pilot runs on weekdays, 8am to 4pm, by GP referral, and walk-in blood tests for people aged 17 and over are available on weekdays, 8am to 2pm, with a request form. For emergencies, call 999 or go to an Emergency Department.
Is there end-of-life nursing at home around Shipston?
Yes. Shipston Home Nursing, a local charity registered with the Care Quality Commission as a hospice service, gives free hospice at home care, and bereavement counselling, for adults in Shipston, Kineton, Bidford, Wellesbourne and the surrounding south Warwickshire villages. Patients, families, carers and GPs can refer on 01608 664850 (8am to 4pm). The Shakespeare Hospice's free Hospice at Home team also covers adults with a South Warwickshire GP (01789 266852). A live-in carer can work alongside both.
How do people in the Shipston villages get to appointments without a car?
Two services help. VASA arranges volunteer drivers from Shipston and the villages to medical appointments, for a £4 fee plus 55p a mile, with a minimum of £8 (01789 262889, weekdays 9.30am to 3.30pm; register at least two working days before you ask for a journey). IndieGo PLUS is an on-demand bus covering every town and parish in Stratford-on-Avon District on weekdays; book by app or on 01926 742000. Fares start at £3 and concessionary passes are valid.
How much does live-in care cost in Shipston-on-Stour?
Live-in care with Day and Nightcare costs from £1,550 a week in Shipston-on-Stour, the same as everywhere in England, for one person with a carer who rests at night. That includes our care team's management (the assessment, care plan, reviews, supervision and the on-call manager) and the carer's food; break cover and the carer's travel are extra. For a couple it is from £1,800 a week, where one carer can safely meet both partners' needs. You receive a written quote after a free assessment.

Ask for a care needs assessment; if you are eligible, council funding can usually be taken as a direct payment and used for live-in care from us.
Can live-in care start when someone leaves Warwick Hospital?
It can. Tell us the expected discharge date as early as you can, and we will work with you and the ward's discharge team on when live-in care can start. We can often start within 24 to 48 hours of the assessment, depending on carer availability, and we confirm the start date once a carer is arranged. We have provided Discharge to Assess (D2A) care since 2014.
