Our care, where you live
Our live-in care in Northampton
Live-in care means one-to-one support in your own home: personal care, medication support, meals, help around the house, getting out and about, and someone close by at night. Whether it suits the person, and whether one carer can support a couple, is worked out at the free assessment. Read more in live-in care explained and how it works day to day.
How we arrange live-in care in Northampton
Day and Nightcare provides fully managed live-in care in Northampton and the villages around it, from £1,550 a week. One main carer lives in the home; a relief carer covers their holidays and time off, and a manager is on call. Care starts with a free assessment, a written quote and a written care plan.
Care can be paid for privately, by West Northamptonshire Council (including direct payments) or by NHS Continuing Healthcare. We have provided Discharge to Assess (D2A) care since 2014. If someone is in hospital, tell us the expected discharge date (see care after hospital). Our care team is on 01865 715780.
Arranging care and funding in Northampton
West Northamptonshire Council runs adult social care and collects council tax in Northampton. To ask for a care needs assessment, call 0300 126 7000 (Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm) or use the council’s online form to refer yourself or someone else; a family member can call on your relative’s behalf with their consent. Have their date of birth, address, GP and next of kin to hand. If someone is in immediate danger, call 999.

A financial assessment follows. With savings above £23,250 a person usually pays the full cost, but for care at home their own home is not counted. If the council funds care, a direct payment lets you choose your own provider. See council funding for care.
The council says its carers’ assessments are carried out by Northamptonshire Carers (01933 677907, option 2, weekdays), and you can ask even if the person you look after gets no council help.
On council tax, West Northamptonshire disregards an unpaid carer who gives at least 35 hours of care a week to someone over 18 who is not their spouse or partner, and someone who is severely mentally impaired and receives a qualifying benefit. A home adapted for a disabled resident may qualify for a disability reduction (the bill is worked out one band lower); email counciltax@westnorthants.gov.uk. See council tax discounts for care.

How do I get urgent care at Northampton General Hospital now?
Northampton General's new Emergency Department entrance and Urgent Treatment Centre are now open. The Urgent Treatment Centre began treating patients in September 2026 and replaces the former Springfield Urgent Treatment Centre. For advice first, call NHS 111; in an emergency, call 999.
Where are memory problems assessed for people in Northampton?
Start with the GP. For people over 65, the GP or a hospital specialist can refer to the NHS Memory Assessment Service, whose Northampton clinic is at the Watermill Resource Centre on the Berrywood Hospital site in Upton (03000 271 671, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm). Families can contact the trust's Admiral Nurse service directly on 07766 780203.
Is there a day centre for older people in Northampton?
Yes. Age UK Northamptonshire's day centre at the William and Patricia Venton Centre, York Road, takes people from Northampton and across the county. A day normally runs from 10am to 3pm with a two-course lunch, and costs £45.50, or £55 with additional support. Its wheelchair-accessible minibus adds £21 for a return journey. Call 01604 611200.
How much does live-in care cost in Northampton?
Live-in care with Day and Nightcare costs from £1,550 a week in Northampton, the same as everywhere in England, for one person with a carer who rests at night. That includes our care team's management (the assessment, care plan, reviews, supervision and the on-call manager) and the carer's food; break cover and the carer's travel are extra. For a couple it is from £1,800 a week, where one carer can safely meet both partners' needs. You receive a written quote after a free assessment.
Can the council help pay for live-in care in Northampton?
Yes, if the person's care needs meet the national eligibility criteria and their savings are below £23,250 (2026/27). Adult social care in Northampton is arranged by West Northamptonshire Council. Ask for a care needs assessment; if you are eligible, council funding can usually be taken as a direct payment and used for live-in care from us.
Can live-in care start when someone leaves Northampton General Hospital?
It can. Tell us the expected discharge date as early as you can, and we will work with you and the ward's discharge team on when live-in care can start. We can often start within 24 to 48 hours of the assessment, depending on carer availability, and we confirm the start date once a carer is arranged. We have provided Discharge to Assess (D2A) care since 2014.
