Our care, where you live

Our live-in care in Daventry

Live-in care means one-to-one support in your own home: personal care, medication support, meals, help around the house, getting out and about, and someone close by at night. Whether it suits the person, and whether one carer can support a couple, is worked out at the free assessment. Read more in live-in care explained and how it works day to day.

How we arrange live-in care in Daventry

Day and Nightcare provides fully managed live-in care in Daventry and the villages around it, from £1,550 a week. One main carer lives in the home; a relief carer covers their holidays and time off, and a manager is on call. Care starts with a free assessment, a written quote and a written care plan.

Care can be paid for privately, by West Northamptonshire Council (including direct payments) or by NHS Continuing Healthcare. We have provided Discharge to Assess (D2A) care since 2014. If someone is in hospital, tell us the expected discharge date (see care after hospital). Our care team is on 01865 715780.

Arranging care and funding in Daventry

A financial assessment follows. With savings above £23,250 a person usually pays the full cost, but for care at home their own home is not counted. If the council funds care, a direct payment lets you choose your own provider. See council funding for care.

The council’s carers’ assessments are carried out by Northamptonshire Carers (01933 677907, option 2, weekdays). On council tax, West Northamptonshire disregards an unpaid carer who gives at least 35 hours of care a week to someone over 18 who is not their spouse or partner, and someone who is severely mentally impaired and receives a qualifying benefit. A home adapted for a disabled resident may qualify for a disability reduction (email counciltax@westnorthants.gov.uk). See council tax discounts for care.

Urgent care and leaving hospital in Daventry

  • Not an A&E: Danetre Hospital, London Road, has no minor injuries unit. For urgent problems that are not life-threatening, call NHS 111 first.
  • A&E: Northampton General Hospital, Cliftonville, open 24 hours; its new Emergency Department entrance and Urgent Treatment Centre is now the main way in.

Ask the medical team at Northampton General early for an approximate discharge date, tell staff about any equipment or carers already in place, and plan who will collect your relative: hospital transport is only for patients who meet the eligibility criteria. The council says a member of its Transfer of Care Hub visits the ward to talk through the support needed and lets you know what has been arranged.

Danetre Hospital is often the next step. Its inpatient unit has 29 beds for physical rehabilitation after an acute illness or a worsening long-term condition, by referral from a hospital or specialist, with visiting from 11.30am to 8pm every day (a maximum of two visitors per patient). Northampton General also runs outpatient and day surgery services there.

Back home, the council’s reablement service usually lasts up to six weeks, after a referral from a health or social care professional. If needs are mainly health needs, ask about NHS Continuing Healthcare: NHS Northamptonshire Integrated Care Board’s All Age Continuing Care service is on 01604 347415 for anyone registered with a Northamptonshire GP.

Who do I call in Daventry to ask for a care assessment?

Call West Northamptonshire Council's adult social care team on 0300 126 7000 (Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm), or use the council's online form to refer yourself or someone else. If someone is in immediate danger, call 999. A relative who helps can ask for a free carer's assessment through Northamptonshire Carers on 01933 677907 (option 2).

Does Danetre Hospital have a minor injuries unit?

No. Northamptonshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust says Danetre Hospital on London Road does not have a minor injuries unit. The site has 29 NHS rehabilitation beds, taken by referral from a hospital or specialist, and Northampton General runs outpatient and day surgery services there; the trust also provides therapy and mental health services on the site. The nearest A&E is at Northampton General Hospital, open 24 hours. For urgent problems that are not life-threatening, call NHS 111 first.

Is there community transport in Daventry?

Yes. Daventry Area Community Transport runs both a dial-a-ride, which you register for and book in advance, and a volunteer car scheme; both are on 01327 701665. West Northamptonshire Council says each scheme sets its own fares, some accept concessionary bus passes, and volunteer car schemes usually charge a yearly membership plus a mileage rate paid to the driver.

How much does live-in care cost in Daventry?

Live-in care with Day and Nightcare costs from £1,550 a week in Daventry, the same as everywhere in England, for one person with a carer who rests at night. That includes our care team's management (the assessment, care plan, reviews, supervision and the on-call manager) and the carer's food; break cover and the carer's travel are extra. For a couple it is from £1,800 a week, where one carer can safely meet both partners' needs. You receive a written quote after a free assessment.

Can the council help pay for live-in care in Daventry?

Yes, if the person's care needs meet the national eligibility criteria and their savings are below £23,250 (2026/27). Adult social care in Daventry is arranged by West Northamptonshire Council. Ask for a care needs assessment; if you are eligible, council funding can usually be taken as a direct payment and used for live-in care from us.

Can live-in care start when someone leaves Northampton General Hospital?

It can. Tell us the expected discharge date as early as you can, and we will work with you and the ward's discharge team on when live-in care can start. We can often start within 24 to 48 hours of the assessment, depending on carer availability, and we confirm the start date once a carer is arranged. We have provided Discharge to Assess (D2A) care since 2014.
