Our care, where you live

Our live-in care in Rushden

Live-in care means one-to-one support in your own home: personal care, medication support, meals, help around the house, getting out and about, and someone close by at night. Whether it suits the person, and whether one carer can support a couple, is worked out at the free assessment. Read more in live-in care explained and how it works day to day.

How we arrange live-in care in Rushden

Day and Nightcare provides fully managed live-in care in Rushden, Higham Ferrers and the villages around them, from £1,550 a week. One main carer lives in the home; a relief carer covers their holidays and time off, and a manager is on call. Care starts with a free assessment, a written quote and a written care plan.

Care can be paid for privately, by North Northamptonshire Council (including direct payments) or by NHS Continuing Healthcare. We have provided Discharge to Assess (D2A) care since 2014. If someone is in hospital, tell us the expected discharge date (see care after hospital). Our care team is on 01865 715780.

A financial assessment follows. With savings above £23,250 a person usually pays the full cost, but for care at home their own home is not counted. If the council funds care, a direct payment lets you choose your own provider. See council funding for care.

If you look after someone, ask for a carer’s assessment, carried out for the council by Northamptonshire Carers (01933 677907, option 2, weekdays). The charity says carers of an adult living in Northamptonshire may be entitled to 48 hours of free emergency respite a year. On council tax, the council lists a carer disregard, the severe mental impairment disregard and exemption, and an exemption when someone moves permanently into a care home; see council tax discounts for care.

Urgent care and leaving hospital in Rushden

  • A&E: Kettering General Hospital, Rothwell Road, open 24 hours.
  • Advice first: for urgent problems that are not life-threatening, call NHS 111, which can direct you to the right service. In an emergency, call 999.

At Kettering General, ask the medical team early for an approximate discharge date and tell the ward what help is already in place. Hospital transport home is only for patients who meet the eligibility criteria, so plan who will collect your relative. Patients waiting for medicines or transport may move to the Discharge Lounge, open 24 hours a day, seven days a week (01536 491219).

Some people then move to Spinneyfields Care Centre on H.E. Bates Way, whose Beechwood Ward has up to 51 NHS beds for physical rehabilitation after an acute illness or a worsening long-term condition. It takes referrals from hospitals and specialists only. Visiting is 1.30pm to 5pm and 6.30pm to 8pm, with a maximum of two visitors per patient.

Back home, the council’s Reablement North team can give short-term support for up to six weeks after a referral from a healthcare professional; it is free at the start. If needs are mainly health needs, ask about NHS Continuing Healthcare: NHS Northamptonshire Integrated Care Board’s All Age Continuing Care service is on 01604 347415 for anyone registered with a Northamptonshire GP. Our questions to ask before discharge may help.

For a couple it is from £1,800 a week, where one carer can safely meet both partners' needs. You receive a written quote after a free assessment.

Yes, if the person's care needs meet the national eligibility criteria and their savings are below £23,250 (2026/27). Adult social care in Rushden is arranged by North Northamptonshire Council. Ask for a care needs assessment; if you are eligible, council funding can usually be taken as a direct payment and used for live-in care from us.

Can live-in care start when someone leaves Kettering General Hospital?

It can. Tell us the expected discharge date as early as you can, and we will work with you and the ward's discharge team on when live-in care can start. We can often start within 24 to 48 hours of the assessment, depending on carer availability, and we confirm the start date once a carer is arranged. We have provided Discharge to Assess (D2A) care since 2014.
