Our care, where you live
Our live-in care in Brackley
Live-in care means one-to-one support in your own home: personal care, medication support, meals, help around the house, getting out and about, and someone close by at night. Whether it suits the person, and whether one carer can support a couple, is worked out at the free assessment. Read more in live-in care explained and how it works day to day.
How we arrange live-in care in Brackley
Day and Nightcare provides fully managed live-in care in Brackley and the villages around it, from £1,550 a week. One main carer lives in the home; a relief carer covers their holidays and time off, and a manager is on call. Care starts with a free assessment, a written quote and a written care plan.
Care can be paid for privately, by West Northamptonshire Council (including direct payments) or by NHS Continuing Healthcare. We have provided Discharge to Assess (D2A) care since 2014. If someone is in hospital, tell us the expected discharge date (see care after hospital). Our care team is on 01865 715780.
Arranging care and funding in Brackley
West Northamptonshire Council runs adult social care and collects council tax in Brackley. To ask for a care needs assessment, call 0300 126 7000 (Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm) or use the online form to refer yourself or someone else; a family member can call on your relative’s behalf with their consent. If someone is in immediate danger, call 999.

A financial assessment follows. With savings above £23,250 a person usually pays the full cost, but for care at home their own home is not counted. If the council funds care, a direct payment lets you choose your own provider. See council funding for care.
The council’s carers’ assessments are carried out by Northamptonshire Carers (01933 677907, option 2, weekdays). On council tax, West Northamptonshire disregards an unpaid carer who gives at least 35 hours of care a week to someone over 18 who is not their spouse or partner, and someone who is severely mentally impaired and receives a qualifying benefit. A home adapted for a disabled resident may qualify for a disability reduction (email counciltax@westnorthants.gov.uk). See council tax discounts for care.
Urgent care and leaving hospital in Brackley
- A&E, Northampton: Northampton General Hospital, Cliftonville, open 24 hours; its new Emergency Department entrance and Urgent Treatment Centre is now the main way in.
- A&E, Banbury: Horton General Hospital, run by Oxford University Hospitals, has an emergency department open 24 hours, next to the main entrance off Hightown Road.
- Not an A&E: Brackley Community Hospital has rehabilitation beds only. For urgent problems that are not life-threatening, call NHS 111 first.
At Northampton General, ask the medical team early for an approximate discharge date; hospital transport is only for patients who meet the eligibility criteria. The council’s Transfer of Care Hub visits the ward to talk through the support needed and lets you know what has been arranged.
If your relative is in the Horton, its leaving-hospital page lists Oxfordshire community hospitals and social services, but care for a Brackley resident is still assessed by West Northamptonshire Council, so tell the ward team early where they live. The Horton says planning for discharge starts when someone is admitted, or before, and expects patients to be involved, with a relative or carer. Families arrange transport home: its hospital transport is only for people who meet strict medical criteria.
Brackley Community Hospital, on the top floor of Brackley Medical Centre, Wellington Road, has 16 en-suite beds, by referral from a hospital or specialist; visiting is 2pm to 5pm and 6pm to 8pm. Back home, the council’s reablement service usually lasts up to six weeks, after a referral from a health or social care professional. For NHS Continuing Healthcare, NHS Northamptonshire Integrated Care Board’s All Age Continuing Care service (01604 347415) takes enquiries about anyone registered with a Northamptonshire GP.

Your questions
Questions about live-in care in Brackley
Who do I call in Brackley to ask for a care assessment?
Call West Northamptonshire Council's adult social care team on 0300 126 7000 (Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm), or use the council's online form to refer yourself or someone else. If someone is in immediate danger, call 999. This is the right council even if your relative is treated at the Horton in Banbury. A relative who helps can ask Northamptonshire Carers for a free carer's assessment on 01933 677907 (option 2).
Which A&E do people in Brackley use?
Two are within reach. Northampton General Hospital is the A&E for West Northamptonshire, open 24 hours; its new Emergency Department entrance and Urgent Treatment Centre is now the main way in. Horton General Hospital in Banbury, just over the Oxfordshire border, also has an emergency department open 24 hours, next to the main entrance off Hightown Road. In a life-threatening emergency, call 999; for other urgent problems, call NHS 111 first.
What is Brackley Community Hospital?
Brackley Community Hospital, on the top floor of Brackley Medical Centre on Wellington Road, is run by Northamptonshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. It has 16 NHS inpatient beds, all en-suite, for physical rehabilitation after an acute illness or a deterioration of a long-term condition, and takes referrals from hospitals and specialists only. Visiting is 2pm to 5pm and 6pm to 8pm, with no more than two visitors per patient, and children under five are not allowed on the ward. It is not an A&E.
How much does live-in care cost in Brackley?
Live-in care with Day and Nightcare costs from £1,550 a week in Brackley, the same as everywhere in England, for one person with a carer who rests at night. That includes our care team's management (the assessment, care plan, reviews, supervision and the on-call manager) and the carer's food; break cover and the carer's travel are extra. For a couple it is from £1,800 a week, where one carer can safely meet both partners' needs. You receive a written quote after a free assessment.
Can the council help pay for live-in care in Brackley?
Yes, if the person's care needs meet the national eligibility criteria and their savings are below £23,250 (2026/27). Adult social care in Brackley is arranged by West Northamptonshire Council. Ask for a care needs assessment; if you are eligible, council funding can usually be taken as a direct payment and used for live-in care from us.
Can live-in care start when someone leaves Northampton General Hospital?
It can. Tell us the expected discharge date as early as you can, and we will work with you and the ward's discharge team on when live-in care can start. We can often start within 24 to 48 hours of the assessment, depending on carer availability, and we confirm the start date once a carer is arranged. We have provided Discharge to Assess (D2A) care since 2014.
