Our care, where you live
Our live-in care in Wroughton
Live-in care means one-to-one support in your own home: personal care, medication support, meals, help around the house, getting out and about, and someone close by at night. Whether it suits the person, and whether one carer can support a couple, is worked out at the free assessment. Read more in live-in care explained and how it works day to day.
How we arrange live-in care in Wroughton
Day and Nightcare provides fully managed live-in care in Wroughton and the villages around it, from £1,550 a week. One main carer lives in the home; a relief carer covers their holidays and time off, and a manager is on call. Care starts with a free assessment, a written quote and a written care plan.
Care can be paid for privately, by Swindon Borough Council (including direct payments) or by NHS Continuing Healthcare. We have provided Discharge to Assess (D2A) care since 2014. If someone is in hospital, tell us the expected discharge date (see care after hospital). Our care team is on 01865 715780.
Arranging care and funding in Wroughton
Wroughton is in Swindon Borough, so Swindon Borough Council arranges adult social care and collects council tax. Phone the contact centre on 01793 445500 during office hours, with your relative’s consent if you are calling for them. The adviser passes the request to the right social work team, which contacts you and sends a summary. Out of hours, choose option 4 for the Emergency Duty Team.

The council says social care is not free. If support is agreed, a financial assessment follows: with savings over £23,250 your relative would usually pay the full cost, and the home is not counted when care is at home. For 2026/27 the council charges £27.84 an hour for home care it arranges. Funding can be paid as a direct payment; see council funding for care.
If you look after someone, ask for a free carer’s assessment through their social worker or Swindon Carers Together. It can lead to a carers emergency card or a carer’s direct payment.
For council tax, call 0345 302 2316. Swindon offers a 25% reduction for a live-in carer, not a partner, giving at least 35 hours of care a week to someone receiving a benefit such as Attendance Allowance, reductions for severe mental impairment and for homes adapted for a disabled person, and disregards for long-term hospital patients and care home residents. Each is claimed online. See council tax discounts for care.
Swindon’s Homeline alarm service, with 24-hour monitoring and an in-person response, is not taking new users at present. Our guide to technology and telecare explains the alternatives.
Urgent care and leaving hospital in Wroughton
- Urgent treatment: at the Great Western Hospital, Marlborough Road, Swindon, walk-in patients enter through the Urgent Treatment Centre at the west entrance, open 7am to 10pm; outside those hours, use the out-of-hours entrance beside it.
- A&E: the Great Western’s Emergency Department is open 24 hours.
The Great Western aims to discharge people by midday, usually from its Discharge Lounge. It asks families to arrange transport, clothes and shoes, and to make sure there are keys, heating, food and medicines at home.
Some people go on to the Swindon Intermediate Care Centre on Downs Way, on the hospital campus, for people moving between hospital and home, run by HCRG Care Group (0300 247 0200). Ward staff can also refer people to the council’s intermediate care teams, such as Home First; ask the ward early what has been arranged.
If needs are mainly health needs, ask about NHS Continuing Healthcare. NHS BSW ICB lists email contacts only: bswicb.chcassessreview@nhs.net, or bswicb.chcdutyft@nhs.net for Fast Track, which a clinician can use when someone has a rapidly deteriorating condition that may be terminal.

Your questions
Questions about live-in care in Wroughton
Is Wroughton covered by Swindon or Wiltshire council?
Swindon Borough Council. Wroughton is one of the parishes in Swindon Borough, so adult social care and council tax both come from Swindon. To ask for a care assessment, phone the contact centre on 01793 445500 during office hours, with your relative's consent if you are calling for them. The needs assessment is free, and anyone can ask for one. Out of hours, ring the same number and choose option 4 for the Emergency Duty Team. Nearby Broad Hinton and Winterbourne Bassett are in Wiltshire Council's area instead, so people there call Wiltshire Council on 0300 456 0111.
Where is the nearest A&E to Wroughton?
The Emergency Department at the Great Western Hospital on Marlborough Road, Swindon, which is open 24 hours. If you walk in, use the hospital's west entrance, where a clinical navigator directs each person to the Emergency Department, the Urgent Treatment Centre or an assessment unit. The Urgent Treatment Centre is open 7am to 10pm. People who arrive by ambulance go straight to the Emergency Department. In a life-threatening emergency, call 999; for urgent advice, call 111.
What does Prospect Hospice in Wroughton offer?
Prospect Hospice, on Moormead Road, gives free end-of-life care at the hospice and in people's own homes, with therapy, support for families and a bereavement café. It accepts adults living in Swindon, Marlborough and north-east Wiltshire who need specialist palliative support in their last year of life. Anyone can refer by phone on 01793 816124, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm; at other times the 24-hour advice line is 01793 816109.
Who helps family carers in Wroughton?
Swindon Carers Together, the carers' service for Swindon, at Sanford House in Swindon (01793 531133, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm). It offers carers' assessments, information and an emergency carers card. If the person you look after already gets council services, ask their social worker for your carer's assessment instead. The assessment is free, and you do not need the permission of the person you care for to ask.
How much does live-in care cost in Wroughton?
Live-in care with Day and Nightcare costs from £1,550 a week in Wroughton, the same as everywhere in England, for one person with a carer who rests at night. That includes our care team's management (the assessment, care plan, reviews, supervision and the on-call manager) and the carer's food; break cover and the carer's travel are extra. For a couple it is from £1,800 a week, where one carer can safely meet both partners' needs. You receive a written quote after a free assessment.
Can the council help pay for live-in care in Wroughton?
Yes, if the person's care needs meet the national eligibility criteria and their savings are below £23,250 (2026/27). Adult social care in Wroughton is arranged by Swindon Borough Council. Ask for a care needs assessment; if you are eligible, council funding can usually be taken as a direct payment and used for live-in care from us.
Can live-in care start when someone leaves Great Western Hospital?
It can. Tell us the expected discharge date as early as you can, and we will work with you and the ward's discharge team on when live-in care can start. We can often start within 24 to 48 hours of the assessment, depending on carer availability, and we confirm the start date once a carer is arranged. We have provided Discharge to Assess (D2A) care since 2014.
