Our care, where you live
Our live-in care in Minchinhampton
Live-in care means one-to-one support in your own home: personal care, medication support, meals, help around the house, getting out and about, and someone close by at night. Whether it suits the person, and whether one carer can support a couple, is worked out at the free assessment. Read more in live-in care explained and how it works day to day.
How we arrange live-in care in Minchinhampton
Day and Nightcare provides fully managed live-in care in Minchinhampton and the villages around it, from £1,550 a week. One main carer lives in the home; a relief carer covers their holidays and time off, and a manager is on call. Care starts with a free assessment, a written quote and a written care plan.
Care can be paid for privately, by Gloucestershire County Council (including direct payments) or by NHS Continuing Healthcare. We have provided Discharge to Assess (D2A) care since 2014. If someone is in hospital, tell us the expected discharge date (see care after hospital). Our care team is on 01865 715780.
Arranging care and funding in Minchinhampton
Gloucestershire County Council arranges adult social care. Call the Adult Social Care Helpdesk on 01452 426 868 (weekdays, 8am to 5pm). In a serious social care emergency out of hours, the Emergency Duty Team is on 01452 614 194. The needs assessment is free; a financial assessment then works out whether your relative contributes. With savings over £23,250 they would usually pay the full cost, and the home is not counted when care is at home. If the council funds care, it can be paid as a direct payment. See council funding for care.

Family carers can ask for a carer’s assessment through the Gloucestershire Carers Hub on 0300 111 9000 (Monday, Wednesday and Friday 9am to 5pm; Tuesday and Thursday 8am to 8pm). It also helps with breaks, and the county’s free Carers Emergency Scheme can provide support in a crisis. Since 1 October 2026 the scheme’s emergency calls are managed by the county council (01452 426868); the number on old cards stopped working after 30 September 2026.
Stroud District Council collects council tax (01453 766321). For someone classed as severely mentally impaired who receives a qualifying benefit such as Attendance Allowance, its claim form, signed by a doctor or medical professional, can bring a full exemption if they are the only adult at home or a 25% discount if one other adult lives there. Homes adapted for a disabled person may qualify for a disabled persons reduction after a visit from the council’s visiting officer. See council tax discounts for care.

- Minor injuries: the nearest Minor Injury and Illness Unit is at Stroud General Hospital, Trinity Road, usually open 8am to 8pm daily (last walk-in 7.30pm). It is not an A&E; call NHS 111 first.
- A&E: the county’s 24-hour consultant-led A&E is at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital in Gloucester.
Before discharge from Gloucestershire Royal, use the trust’s going-home checklist (where your relative is going, transport, their medicines and when to take them, heating on, food in the fridge); its Onward Care Team supports patients with complex needs who will need ongoing care. Stroud General also has inpatient beds on Jubilee Ward, so ask the ward team whether a community hospital stay or Home First is planned.
Home First gives NHS-funded support at home for 1 to 10 days, seven days a week. Where is the nearest minor injuries unit and A&E to Minchinhampton?
The nearest Minor Injury and Illness Unit is at Stroud General Hospital on Trinity Road, Stroud, usually open 8am to 8pm every day with last walk-in arrivals at 7.30pm. The hours can change, so the NHS asks you to call 111 first. The nearest 24-hour consultant-led A&E is at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital in Gloucester. In a life-threatening emergency, call 999.
How do we get hospice support from Longfield in Minchinhampton?
Longfield Community Hospice, on Burleigh Lane, provides free care. Its Hospice at Home team, including overnight care so families can rest, is for adults with a Gloucestershire GP who are thought to be in the last 12 weeks of life and meet the Fast Track criteria, and a GP, district nurse or hospital team makes the referral. Its free Living Well services, for people with a life-limiting condition, their carers and the bereaved, accept self-referrals (01453 733706). Main reception: 01453 886868.
Is there a day centre for older people in Minchinhampton?
Yes. The Dr Booth Day Centre at Horsfall House on Windmill Road is open Monday to Friday, 9.30am to 2.30pm, for older people living within about six kilometres of Minchinhampton, including people living with dementia. It offers activities, company and a home-cooked lunch, with personal care and bathing at extra cost, and transport can collect people from home. The council's directory says no referral is needed; call 01453 731227 to ask about places and fees.
How much does live-in care cost in Minchinhampton?
Live-in care with Day and Nightcare costs from £1,550 a week in Minchinhampton, the same as everywhere in England, for one person with a carer who rests at night. That includes our care team's management (the assessment, care plan, reviews, supervision and the on-call manager) and the carer's food; break cover and the carer's travel are extra. For a couple it is from £1,800 a week, where one carer can safely meet both partners' needs. You receive a written quote after a free assessment.
Can the council help pay for live-in care in Minchinhampton?
Yes, if the person's care needs meet the national eligibility criteria and their savings are below £23,250 (2026/27). Adult social care in Minchinhampton is arranged by Gloucestershire County Council. Ask for a care needs assessment; if you are eligible, council funding can usually be taken as a direct payment and used for live-in care from us.
Can live-in care start when someone leaves Gloucestershire Royal Hospital?
It can. Tell us the expected discharge date as early as you can, and we will work with you and the ward's discharge team on when live-in care can start. We can often start within 24 to 48 hours of the assessment, depending on carer availability, and we confirm the start date once a carer is arranged. We have provided Discharge to Assess (D2A) care since 2014.
